José Manuel Bañuls Marcos is a Spanish saxophonist based in Germany since 2013. He completed his Master of Music in Contemporary Performance at the Cologne University of Music and Dance in 2016, specializing in New Music under Professor David Smeyers and in chamber music with the Cuarteto Casals. Previously, he earned his undergraduate degree in Mallorca and a second Master's degree at the Royal College of Music in London.

An active performer on the international stage, José has been invited to play in renowned concert halls across Europe, South America, and Asia, including the Royal Opera House, Wigmore Hall (London), and the Wiener Musikverein (Vienna). He has also performed at major festivals such as the Edinburgh Fringe, Cologne Philharmonic's Tripclubbing, Mosel Music Festival, Bermudas Festival, and the prestigious London Jazz Festival.

His achievements as a soloist include First Prize at the Jane Melber Competition in London and the Dr. Michael and Ruth West Award. José has also gained extensive orchestral experience as a guest musician with the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, the Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra, the Gürzenich Orchester Köln, and the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he has collaborated with the renowned SWR Experimentalstudio.

A significant focus of his work is with the award-winning Fukio Saxophone Quartet. Since 2008, the ensemble has dedicated itself to the chamber music repertoire for saxophone. With the quartet, José has won top prizes in several international chamber music competitions, including the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Competition in Berlin and the Karlsruhe Competition for the Interpretation of New Music.

His discography includes recordings for the English label Chandos Records and ARS Productions. Many of his performances have been broadcast by radio stations such as SWR, Deutschlandfunk, WDR 3, RTVE, and BBC Radio 3.
